J. Struś Multispecialist Municipal Hospital at the “first line of defense” against COVID-19
The entire J. Struś Multispecialist Municipal Hospital has been converted into isolation hospital, with 20 isolation units and two high level isolation units where air is ventilated through a special system of filters.
Up until now, five patients have been ventilated mechanically. Other isolation units are occupied by patients with confirmed CONVID-19 and symptoms of pneumonia.
The Department of Infectious Diseases possesses its own 24h emergency room, which is the “headquarters” of the combat with CONVID-19. The department emergency room and the main emergency room of the hospital are the places where patients are qualified for further treatment and decisions are taken regarding tests – 100 people on average each day.
Only 9 doctors, six of each are members of the faculty, are working the the department. They are supported by two assistants from the Department of Tropical Diseases, and students from the final year of medicine.
Thanks to the hospital management and local authorities, the department is equipped with a sufficient amount of protective clothing and up-to-date equipment including ventilators.
